Counseling Program Overview
Welcome to our Counseling page! The counseling program at Woodbury Elementary is a comprehensive support system that builds on the Woodbury Values by helping students develop the social-emotional skills needed to be successful in this ever-changing world. Through both the support of the Guidance Assistant (GA) and Elementary Resource Counselor (ERC), students at Woodbury develop the skills to cope with challenges, create positive relationships, and manage their emotions to be successful learners.
The Elementary Guidance Assistant Program is a school-wide program designed to promote social-emotional learning for students in the classroom. The program uses an evidence-based social-emotional curriculum called Second Step. The Second Step lessons teach children how to understand and manage their emotions, develop empathy, and have the skills to problem-solve and make responsible decisions. The Elementary Resource Counseling Specialist (ERC) supports students with social-emotional and mental health needs. The ERC provides short-term individual and group counseling, provides resources and community linkage for families and support for school-wide social-emotional learning activities.
