Counseling Program Overview

The counseling program at Woodbury Elementary is a comprehensive support system that builds on the Woodbury Values by providing students with the personal and social tools needed to be successful in this ever-changing world. Through both the support of the Guidance Assistant (GA) and Elementary Resource Counselor (ERC), students develop more positive personal and social skills and learn how to make appropriate choices in challenging situations.

The Elementary Guidance Assistant Program is a school-wide program designed to promote social-emotional learning for students. The program uses an evidence-based social-emotional classroom curriculum called Second Step. The Second Step lessons are designed to teach children how to understand and manage their emotions, control their reactions, be aware of others’ feelings, and have the skills to problem-solve and make responsible decisions.

The Elementary Resource Counseling Specialist (ERC) supports students in meeting their social-emotional and mental health needs. The ERC provides short-term individual and group counseling, provides resources for parents and staff and social-emotional education programs for elementary school students within the school setting.
