Counseling Program Overview
The counseling program at Woodbury Elementary is a comprehensive support system that builds on the Woodbury Values by providing students with the personal and social tools needed to be successful in this ever changing world. Through both the support of the Guidance Assistant and Elementary Resource Counselor, students develop more positive personal and social skills and learn how to make appropriate choices in challenging situations.
The Elementary Guidance Assistant Program is a school-wide program designed to cover social-emotional learning for students during their school day. The program uses an evidence based social-emotional classroom curriculum called Second Step and/or Toolbox. Second Step is designed to teach children how to understand and manage their emotions, control their reactions, be aware of others’ feelings, and have the skills to problem solve and make responsible decisions.
The Elementary Resource Counseling Specialist is a resource on campus to help students meet their social-emotional and mental health needs. The ERC provides short-term individual or group counseling, referrals and education programs for elementary school students within the school setting.
